Effortless Event Management: A Guide to WordPress Event Calendar Plugins

Event Calendar is a popular free calendar plugin that displays visitor events based on website dates. It provides a structured way to display upcoming events and can be added as an external plugin on a WordPress website.

a) How to install the WordPress Event Calendar plugin

1. Log in to WordPress and select Plugins on the menu on the left side of the dashboard, then click the “Add New” button.

2. Then, search for “Event Calendar” on the search bar and click the “Install Now” button to install it.

3. After that, click the Activate button, and you are able to make and publish the first event quickly.

b) How to create an event in the WordPress Event Calendar

1. Log in to WordPress and select Events from the menu on the left side of the dashboard, then click the “Add New” button.

2. Then, add a title and description to the event with a WordPress page and post in the event editor.

3. There are types of event fields below the editor’s summary in an area called the Events Meta Box, and you will know them one by one below.

c) The Start/End

In the Time & Date section, the date picker is used at the start and end of an event, allowing users to select a date from the calendar. The start and end times can be chosen from drop-down menus or manually entered. However, checking the all-day event box prevents defining the date or time of the event.

d) All Day Event

In the Time & Date section, the All Day Events checkbox is beneficial for events that occur on specific dates.

e) Event Venue

In the Location section, if we are using the event calendar for the first time, we can see a list of fields for creating the first event venue. If we have created a venue for a previous event, we will have the option to select an existing venue from the drop-down menu. To create a new active menu, enter a new name and select “Create”. It’s important to note that building the venue doesn’t necessarily mean defining the location; instead, continue to the next section.

f) Organizers

In the organizers section, you can choose existing organizer details for the event venue, allowing organizers to select a complete selection of areas instead of venue details.

g) Event Website

In the Event Website section, the new Event Management provides a dedicated events website, which is very beneficial for organizing events for external organizations and essential for maintaining the event calendar.

h) Event Options

In the Event Options section, there are three options: Hide From Event Listings, Sticky in Month View, and Feature Event.

  • Hide From Event Listings: To link and post an event via email or menu, check the Hide from event list box to ensure it is not included in the event view.
  • Feature Event: Highlight significant events on the page, displaying them in event views, files, and widgets, making them ideal for special commitments.
