Google Workspace: Common Questions and Answers, Part 2

a) Can I move old emails, calendar events, and contacts to Google Workspace ?

Google Workspace

Google Workspace allows users to migrate their existing email, contact, and calendar data, either for themselves or their team members, using tools from Microsoft® Exchange, Outlook® or Office 365™, IBM® Notes®, and other email systems.

b) Will I experience email downtime during the transition ?

Google Workspace

To use Gmail with Google Workspace, you need to set up a domain name (MX record) to direct mail flow to the Gmail server. This is similar to registering your new address with the post office. You can start receiving and sending emails from your Google Workspace account after the MX record changes take effect, but until then, you will continue using the old email system.

c) Will this transition affect my current website ? Can you host my website  ?

Google Workspace

Google Workspace is not a web hosting provider but rather a platform that allows users to learn about Google web hosting solutions without any changes to their current site.

d) Can I use my own domain name in Google Workspace ? What should I do if I don’t have an existing domain name ?

Google Workspace

To use Google Workspace, you need a domain name, which is the last part of your website URL after www. You can enter your existing domain name when signing up, and if you don’t have one or want to use a different one, you can purchase a domain name from Google if it is available.

e) Do I need to use third-party tools to keep my data secure within Google ?

Google Workspace

Google Workspace offers customers essential security features, including advanced Google Drive auditing and large-scale security key management. Administrators can control system configuration and applications from a single dashboard, regardless of the size of the organization. They have access to tools like two-step verification and email security policies, which can be configured with a few clicks.
