Advanced Techniques: Speeding Up Send and Receive in Outlook 2010 with Smarter Mail

Outlook 2010 and IMAP users may experience slow sending and receiving speeds or an inability to send and receive emails due to Outlook extracting the folder count of subfolders, particularly for users with multiple email subfolders.

a) How do I slow send and receive with Outlook 2010 and IMAP ?

1. First, navigate to File and select Options.

2. Then, select Advanced.

3. After that, click on the “Send/Receive…” button under the “Send and Receive” section.

4. Next, select the “All Accounts” group and click the “Edit…” button.

5. Then, uncheck “Get folder unread count for subscribed folders“.

6. After that, select the “Use the custom behavior defined below” option under “Receive mail items“.

7. Next, check the “Select folders from the selected account to include in send/receive” box, including the Inbox and any other folders with content filters.

8. Then, close Outlook and reopen it.

9. Finally, emails should now be sent and received.
