Efficient Server Role Setup: A Guide to GUI-Based Hyper-V Installation

Hyper-V is Microsoft’s native hypervisor that enables the creation and management of virtual machines and their resources, enabling the independent running of multiple guest operating systems, virtualization of servers and workloads, and ensuring business continuity.

a) How do I install the Hyper-V server role using the GUI ?

1. First, click Add Roles and Features in Server Manager from the Manage menu, or select Dashboard on the left.

2. Then, perform verification steps on the Before You Begin page and ensure your computer is compatible by clicking Next.

3. After that, select role-based or feature-based installation and click Next on the Select installation type section.

4. Next, select a server from the server pool, usually your local server or multiple servers if using a remote management tool, and click “Next” again.

5. Then, select Hyper-V on the Select Server Role page.

6. After that, click Add Features to add tools for creating and managing virtual machines, and then click Next on the Features page.

7. Next, choose the appropriate options for your environment on the Create Virtual Switch, Virtual Machine Migration, and Default Storage pages.

8. Then, the “Reboot this server if required” option should be marked according to your organization’s policies on the Confirm Installation Selection page, and then click Finish.

9. Finally, launch the Hyper-V Manager console from the Start screen to verify that it is up and running.
