Migrating Smarter Track to a New Server: Comprehensive Instructions

System administrators may occasionally need to migrate Smarter Track to a new server due to company growth or a change in hosting provider.

a) How do I move Smarter Track to a new server?

1. To make sure your Smarter Track license is active, visit the Smarter Tools website, select your license, and find the required key. If a “Reset Activation” button appears, activate the license again.

Note: Smarter Tools customers can activate products twice, reset activation in My Account, and activate the same license key on both servers within 30 days without triggering fraud protection alerts if server hostname or database connection information changes.

2. Then, the data should be backed up on the server where Smarter Track is installed:

  • App_data folder under C:\Program Files (x86)\SmarterTools\SmarterTrack\MRS
  • Smarter Track database

3. After that, install Smarter Track on the new server.

4. Then, set up Smarter Track in IIS.

5. If you are using IIS, stop the IIS service.

6. After that, restore the following on the new server:

  • App_data folder
  • Smarter Track database

7. If you are using IIS, start the IIS service.

8. Next, log in to Smarter Track as an administrator.

9. Then, the setup wizard should be used to enter the necessary connection information to reconnect to the database.

10. Finally, reactivate Smarter Track.
