Smarter Mail calculates overall disk usage for users and domains internally, rather than polling disks, to save valuable disk I/O. This is done to ensure that the user’s folder on the server matches the listed disk usage, as the email server is already on the hard drive.

a) How do I clear out the disk usage data in Smarter Mail stores ?

1. First, stop the Smarter Mails service.

2. Then, delete the following files:

  • mailbox.cfg
    • Default install path is C:\SmarterMail\Domains\[domain_name]\Users\[username]\Mail\Inbox
  • root.cfg
    • Default install path is C:\SmarterMail\Domains\[domain_name]\Users\[username]\Mail\
  • Filestore.xml (Applies to SmarterMail 16.x only)
    • Default install path is C:\SmarterMail\Domains\[domain_name]\Users\Media\Filestore\

3. Afterwards, restart the Smarter Mail service to rebuild files using disk information.

4. Finally, the user’s disk usage summary will match the information displayed on their disk.
