Securing Directories in cPanel: A Comprehensive Guide to Directory Privacy

cPanel’s feature enables the protection of specific directories with usernames and passwords. This ensures that website visitors are prompted for a username and password when attempting to access the file and if they don’t match, the directory’s contents are blocked.

a) How to configure directory privacy in cPanel

1. Log into cPanel and navigate to the Files section to select Directory Privacy tool or search for the Directory Privacy tool in the search bar to explore your cPanel file manager.

2. Then, navigate to the desired directory within the directory and use the icon on the left to open it.

3. After that, select the directory you want to protect by clicking on the folder name.

4. Next, check the “Password protect this directory” checkbox and enter the labels you want to display on the frontend. Click “Save” to protect this directory.

5. Then, enter the username and password to create a new user to access this directory from the frontend.

6. Finally, click Save to grant access to this user where you can create multiple users.

7. If you try to access the password directory, you will be prompted to enter a username and password to access the directory.
