Comprehensive Guide to Backing Up Google Workspace Shared Drives

Shared drives are accessible spaces for teams to store, search, and access their files from any device, unlike My Drive, which belongs to individual files.

a) How do I recover an entire shared drive in Google Workspace ?

1. First, click on Google Workspace.

2. To restore backup data from multiple Google Workspace organizations in the Network Protection Service, select the organization whose data you want to restore. Otherwise, skip this step.

3. Then, expand the Shared Drives node, select all shared drives, and click Restore. If deleted, select it in the Cloud App Backup section of the Backup Storage tab and click Show Backup. You can search by name, but wildcards aren’t supported.

4. After that, select a recovery point.

5. Next, click “Recover” to select the entire shared drive.

6. To view, change, or specify a target organization in Google Workspace Organizations, click on the organization. If the original organization is no longer registered, select a new one from the available registered organizations.

7. In Recovery to drive, you can drive, view, change, or specify the target shared drive or user. Data will be restored to the user’s Google Drive, and if the shared drive doesn’t exist or the user isn’t selected, specify the target.

8. Then, choose whether to restore the file’s sharing permissions.

9. After that, click on Start Recovery.

10. Next, select one of the overlay options:

  • Overwrite existing files
  • Overwrite an existing file if it is older
  • Do not overwrite existing files

11. Finally, click “Proceed” to confirm your decision.
