Securing Your Website: A Guide to cPanel Virus Scanner

ClamAV is an open-source antivirus software that can be used in the cPanel web hosting service to detect potential threats on the server. It can run on-demand scans of files to determine if they are infected and can scan different sectors of your home directory.

a) How to scan your account with a virus scanner in cPanel

1. Log into cPanel and navigate to the Advanced section to select Virus Scanner tool or search for the Virus Scanner tool in the search bar.

2. Then, select the scan type:

  • Scan Entire Home Directory: Scans your entire cPanel account, including your home directory, email, FTP accounts and website, eliminating the need for additional scans.
  • Scan Mail: Scan emails for viruses, notifying users of malicious emails with viruses or malware.
  • Scan Public FTP Spaces: Scan your public_ftp folder, detecting any malicious files uploaded via FTP which a virus scanner will then detect.
  • Scan Public Web Space: Scan your public_html which contains all your frontend files.

3. Finally, click the “Scan Now” button to start scanning and if it finds any malware, it will offer options to correct the error and let you select it accordingly.
