Advanced Techniques Settings: Speeding Up Outlook 2010 in Smarter Mail

Outlook 2010 defaults to downloading emails and attachments for every folder, causing slow download times for users with larger mailboxes. This change was made to index all content and display information about each contact’s sent emails and attachments.

a) How do I change the settings to only download the message headers to speed up Outlook ?

1. First, run Outlook 2010.

2. Then, click on the “Send/Receive” tab.

3. After that, click on Send/Receive Groups and select Define Send/Receive Groups to edit the send/receive group’s settings.

4. Next, select all accounts and click Edit.

5. Then, uncheck the “Get folder unread count for subscribed folders” option.

6. After that, click on the “Use the custom behavior defined below” option.

7. Next, check Inbox and any other folders that receive new messages in the Folder Options box.

8. Then, click OK.

9. Finally, click Close.
