3. Sucuri website backup

a) How do you back up my website ?

We use your current FTP/SFTP credentials to connect to your website, and our daily snapshots match your live site. Database and website files are backed up separately, and all backups are available from day one.

b) What do you back up ?

Sucuri

We will back up website files and databases separately as long as your database has an accessible configuration file, excluding certain file types.

c) What file types do you exclude ?

Sucuri

We don’t back up files with specific extensions like .sql, .zip, .attach, .thumb, .avi, and .mp3, and exclude Sucuri tools and server files like  .ftpquota, error_log, error_logs, mw-search.php, gt-cache, cache, .cache, w3tc, imagecache, awstats, logs, .git and cgi-bin.

d) Is there a size limit for backup files ?

The file size limit on a website is typically around 38MB, and no files larger than this are typically present on the site.

e) Do you encrypt my backups on your servers ?

f) Do you have a one-click recovery option ?

g) How do I restore a backup ?

The dashboard allows you to view website backups and download a .zip of database and website files to your local computer. Our team is available for assistance with website restoration.

h) How often are backups performed ?

The dashboard allows you to customize the frequency to be monthly, weekly, daily, or every two days.

i) Will you notify me when a backup is created or fails ?

We provide email notification settings that notify you of various status changes, including successful or failed backups.

j) What if I don’t want to back up all the directories on my website ?

The Sucuri dashboard allows users to add directories to skip from the backup settings.

k) How long will you keep my backups ?

All backups are permanently stored in your account.

l) Do you back up multiple databases on a website ?

The product team can assist with configuration, but sites with multiple databases may require additional setup.

j) Does the plan include malware removal ?

Website Backup is a standalone product that can be integrated into the Sucuri Firewall or Sucuri Platform. To upgrade to the full Sucuri platform, a website firewall is required. Support is available through the Sucuri dashboard.

k) Why should I use your backup service ?

Our backups are securely stored in the cloud using best practices. Some hosting and CMS extensions’ backup services may be compromised, but our externally managed services are hardened using the same security principles as our entire infrastructure.
