1. Remote Access

As businesses increasingly rely on cloud technology, secure, encrypted tunnels between corporate networks and the cloud are critical. This differs from remote access VPNs in that the physical VPN device is deployed on-site on the corporate network, connecting to virtualized endpoints in the cloud. This creates an encrypted tunnel that protects all traffic and treats the two networks as one physically connected network.

1. Direct cloud access

Organizations are increasingly relying on cloud-based applications and data storage to reduce network latency. Traditional VPNs route traffic through headquarters, while cloud VPNs provide secure remote access to cloud deployments.

Hardware VPNs, limited to corporate networks, increase network latency and geographic coverage, while cloud-hosted VPNs offer global accessibility, improved network access, and enhanced performance.

3. Flexibility

Traditional VPNs are challenging to set up and configure, often struggling to adapt to changing network architectures, while cloud-based VPNs, managed by a cloud service provider, offer greater flexibility and availability.

4. Scalability

Traditional hardware VPNs have limited scalability due to their maximum connection or bandwidth capacity, while cloud-based VPNs are more flexible, allowing organizations to adjust the number of users and bandwidth as needed.

5. Mobile support

Cloud VPN solutions often offer explicit mobile support, enhancing usability for remote workers who often find enterprise VPN software difficult to use on mobile devices.
